What other equipment do I need for keeping chameleons?
Part 1.
If you've already got a terrarium of the right size and you've put in soil, branches and plants, all you need to do is buy a few accessories.

Warming lamp
Since the terrarium isn't the right temperature for our animal, we need to provide it with a separate heat source.
One of the essential accessories is a heating lampshade. There's a wide range of models to choose from, in lower and higher versions. The bulb height should be a factor in choosing the right one. In terms of appearance and aesthetics, we can usually choose between matt and glossy finishes. Some lamps come with other bits and bobs to help you position them. These include heat protection grids and clip-on covers
We think a metal lampshade with a reflective coating on the inside is the best option for this. This means that light and heat reach the terrarium and the animal as efficiently as possible.

Heating bulb
When choosing a heating bulb, there are a few things to think about, but first and foremost, you need to think about what your pet needs. What temperature do we want to provide? What's the temperature of the room (i.e. how much should we raise it), how far away from the animal will the heat lamp be? Do we put the lamp inside or outside the terrarium
There are lots of different types of heating bulbs out there, including ceramic, halogen, infrared, different colours and different socket sizes. The wattage varies too. If you have a colder home or a species that needs warmer temperatures, we'd recommend going for a higher wattage bulb. If you have a warmer home, we'd suggest a lower wattage bulb.
